Having a Halloween party? Make sure to give your guests pumpkin to talk about by making these unique seasonal shots.
There’s something for everyone here – jello shots that ooze like a witch’s cauldron, syringe shots that look like they’re straight out of a horror movie, and dessert, and even dessert shots that actually taste like your favorite candy bar.
Most of these come together with just a few ingredients and can be made ahead of time, so you don’t get stuck bartending all night. And if you need make-ahead friendly cocktails too, try my Witches Brew drink or the Halloween margarita.
A few tips before you start:
- Jello shots typically need at least 4 hours to set (overnight is ideal).
- If you’re serving a mixed crowd, it’s easy to make non-alcoholic versions of most of these by swapping out the liquor for more of the mixer it’s paired with.
1. Wicked Witches Brew Jello Shot
Popping boba pearls make these jello shots look like a bubbling witches brew! You can even make different colors and flavors like grape or orange.
2. Glow in the Dark Shot
Impress your guests with these really cool glow in the dark test tube shots! Prep them ahead of time and stage them under a blacklight next to a creepy lab setup. Spooky!
Serving tip: Set these out under a blacklight right before your party starts so guests see them glowing as they walk in. It makes for a great “wow” moment at the door!
3. Brain Hemorrhage Shot
This one is my favorite. It combines peach schnapps, Irish cream, and grenadine into a shot that looks exactly like its name suggests. Gruesome, but shockingly delicious!
Tip: If you have a bottle of blue curacao you can make the alien brain hemorrhage, or with Midori you can create the Zombie brain that’s on-point for Halloween.
4. Butterbeer Shots
Want to sip on butterbeer at Hogsmeade? These mini shots are the next best thing! Perfect for a Harry Potter Halloween movie marathon.
Quick-tip: For a kid-friendly version, skip the alcohol and use cream soda + butterscotch syrup as a “mocktail shot.”
5. Morticia Adams Jello Shot
Morticia Addams’ favorite flower was a red rose, so these blood red jello shots are topped with a strawberry rose in her honor.
Make-ahead tip: These can be made up to 2 days ahead — just keep the strawberry rose garnish separate and add it right before serving.
6. Tootsie Roll Shot
Candy flavored shots are always a hit at my Halloween parties. This two ingredient shot is one of my favorites to serve because of how simple it is.
Pro-tip: Since this one’s only two ingredients, shake it hard with ice for a solid 15 seconds. This helps the ingredients incorporate better instead of separating in the glass.
7. Sorting Hat Shots
Pretend you’re in Snape’s potion class and whip up four unique shots to represent each house at Hogwarts. Easily customize with liquors and flavors you like.
Party tip: Let guests pick their “house” shot as an icebreaker. This is such a fun conversation starter if you’ve go Harry Potter fans in the group!
8. Snickers Shot
Three liqueurs come together to make this stunning, layered shot that tastes like a Snickers candy bar.
Pro-tip: Getting clean layers is the trickiest part, but it’s easily accomplished by pouring the alcohol slowly over the back of a bar spoon. Be sure you have one on hand before you attempt to layer shots!
9. Ectoplasm Syringe Jello Shot
This fun Ectoplasm Jello shot has two boozy layers. A creamy white, sweetened condensed layer and a green, lime one.
10. Poison Frog Shot
This green apple flavored shot has a fake blood rim for maximum spooky effect. Can easily be turned into a cocktail, if desired.
11. Walker Blood Sangria
Fruit juices come together with red wine and sparkling water to make these bloody sangria shooters. Perfect for Walking Dead fans!
Substitution tip: No sparkling water? A splash of ginger ale adds the needed carbonation with a little extra zip, Sprite or 7-Up always work and add a bit of sweetness.
12. Caramel Apple Shots
Caramel Apple is the GOAT when it comes to fall treats. Make this shot that tastes like one with just two ingredients.
Serving tip: rim the shot glasses with a cinnamon and sugar mixture for maximum fall flavor.
13. Bloody Maria Shots
These creepy syringes look like they’re filled with blood, but it’s actually a bloody Maria – (a Bloody Mary with tequila instead of vodka).
14. Polyjuice Potion Shots
Love Midori and pineapple? Then you need to serve these Harry Potter inspired polyjuice potion shots served in mini flasks and beakers.
Presentation tip: Drop in a few edible glitter flakes or a pinch of gold luster dust right before serving for a shimmering, magical effect.
15. Ghastly Green Halloween Shooters
These ghastly green shooters are made with just two ingredients – green Hawaiian Punch and coconut rum. Don’t forget the gummy worm garnish!
16. Butterfinger Shots
This sweet, three-ingredient shot is named after the Butterfinger candy bar and pairs perfectly with the Snickers and Tootsie Roll shots mentioned previously. You could do a whole candy themed shot flight!
