You can now make everyone’s favorite Taco Bell item, the Crunchwrap Supreme, at home with this easy to follow recipe. Just like the fast-food version, this homemade Crunchwrap Supreme is packed with all the toppings!
Jess and I have been talking about making a homemade Crunchwrap Supreme for over a year now. We are proud to announce that it has finally happened!
We were so excited about the accomplishment we ate one for lunch AND for dinner. (Hey, we shared!)
We do try and stay away from eating fast food as much as possible, but once in a while, it’s necessary to indulge. It’s even better when you can make it at home with high-quality meat and fresh veggies from your local grocery store.
I won’t lie though, I still slathered my share with leftover fire sauce from a previous visit to Taco Bell. Of course I had to wash it down with a Baja Blast cocktail.
This was super easy to make and, I’ll say it, better than the original! You guys seem to really love it too because it has become the most popular recipe on our site receiving millions of views!
We get comments and e-mails daily for readers telling us how much they and their families enjoy this homemade version of the crunchwrap supreme. Some have even tweaked it to their liking or made it fit their diet by creating a vegetarian/vegan version. Be sure to scroll down and read the comments to find those!
Wondering what all goes in a Crunchwrap Supreme? The answer is a lot. I think that’s why everyone likes it so much. It’s the ultimate taco bell treat!

Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground meat
- 1 packet taco seasoning mix
- 6 burrito size flour tortillas
- 6 tostada shells
- 1 cup of sour cream
- 2 cups of shredded lettuce
- 1 diced tomato
- 1 cup shredded Mexican cheese blend
- Nacho Cheese
Instructions
- In a skillet or large cooking pan, cook and crumble the ground beef over medium-high heat. When it is no longer pink, drain the grease.
- Place meat back into the pan and stir the taco seasoning mix as well as the water it calls for on the packet. Cook according to the package instructions.
- Warm up the nacho cheese sauce in the microwave and set aside.
- Place the flour tortillas on a plate and warm in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
- Lay one tortilla on a flat surface. Spread a couple of tablespoons of nacho cheese in the middle of the tortilla.
- Place ½ cup of taco meat on top of the nacho cheese.
- Next, add the tostada shell, a thin layer of sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and lastly, the shredded Mexican cheese.
- To fold into the actual crunchwrap, start with the bottom of the tortilla and fold the edge up to the center of the fillings. Keep doing that, folding as tight as possible, as you work your way around the tortilla.
- Spray another skillet or cooking pan with cooking spray and heat over medium heat. Place the crunchwrap supreme, seam-side down, onto the skillet. Cook for 2-3 min., or until golden brown.
- Flip over and cook the other side for another 2-3 min or until golden brown.
- Cook the rest of your crunchwraps and eat immediately.

YES!! This is fantastic!!!
Deby says
Are you kidding me? First off I am so happy to see you using Guerrero Tortillas, my favorite that I can’t buy here in the jungles of Costa Rica. I might try this anyway. Thanks Deby
Chase says
Awesome! Just one thing: Instructions make use of nacho cheese, but it’s not listed under ingredients.
Anetta Mabe says
The instructions say to ” Spread ½ of taco meat onto the center of the tortilla”….Do you mean “1/2 cup?” I’m guessing you do not mean “1/2 of the taco meat because if that were the case, you would only be able to make 2 of these. Just curious.
Jessica Pinney says
Anetta you are correct, 1/2 cup. Sorry for the confusion.
Tyleda says
I love this website
Jessica Pinney says
Thanks! This website loves you back 🙂
Gloria Juarez says
This sounds yummy. Why does everyone use packaged taco seasoning when you can use cumin, chili powder & garlic to taste. Other than that great receipe
Karen says
Do you know if anyone makes Gluten-free flour tortillas? (Or if there can even be such a thing). These look delish but I have to eat Gluten-free…?
George says
I have been making these for years, long before the fast food chains. Another idea, use some cooked chicken breast with broccoli with alfredo sauce. Wrap the same way. Delicious !
rcalien says
A friend uses rice tortillas to avoid the gluten prob.
Molly says
What kind of nacho cheese do you use?
Okhee McRae says
It looks delicious, I am going to make it soon.
Thanks.
Lynn says
I have purchased gluten free tortillas in the refrigerated section of Whole Foods here in Mpls, MN.
karen Eggers says
Instead of a tostoda, just crunch up chips. Stays way crunchier and folds up better. With chips, there is no need to tear off another shell to fit in the top.
Karen says
To Chase: yes it does. Its the last ingredient on the list.
g says
Is the nacho cheese used in this recipe in a jar or does it come from the refrigerated case with the other cheeses? Thanks
Jessica Pinney says
The kind we used comes in a can, but any kind of nacho cheese will get the job done.
Marlene says
Where do I find Nacho Cheese? Never seen it…
Jessica Pinney says
You can usually find it at the grocery store near the chips or in the Mexican food aisle.
Linda K says
Yum! I’m thinking of using the smaller tortilla she’ll for the top instead of tearing? If it’s small enough., not sure.
Rose Marie says
Love this recipe! I also like using the crushed chips, and sometimes make them with chicken instead of ground beef.
Ava Kinsey says
Awesome, Awesome, did I say Awesome? Oh my good gravy!!
Amber says
Do you fry up the tostada shell first or no?
Jessica Pinney says
No, just put it in as is.
Taco Bell Employee says
At Taco Bell, we don’t actually put shredded cheese on it. It’s 2 pumps of nacho cheese, one scoop of beef, a tostada shell, a circle of sour cream, a 4-finger pinch of lettuce, and then a 2-finger pinch of tomatoes. Then we fold it and grill it. We never put any form of shredded cheese in them unless requested specifically by the customer.
Anne Marie says
It’s so easy to make homemade taco meat without all the additives in packaged taco mix. Here it is….
Saute 1/2 diced white onion in a couple tbls of Canola oil. Add 2 lbs ground beef or ground turkey, brown meat.
Drain leaving a little fat for flavor.
Add water to meat to barely cover it.
Add equal parts (2tbls).
Chili powder, paprika, and Cumin.
Simmer on low heat uncovered for 1 hour.
Feel free to add your preference of heat if you like it hot/spicy ?
Jett Whitfield says
Thank you!! Yum!!!
Melissa says
Karen you can get gluten free tortillas from most grocery stores usually by the deli, also if you have aldis near you they have really good ones and they’re less expensive
Stephanie says
Do these save well at all? I only want to make a couple.
Jessica Pinney says
We’ve never had any leftovers here, so I’m not sure. I imagine they will not be nearly as good as fresh, and possibly get soggy.
Tamara says
A total hit with my skeptical guys. So happy they enjoyed the surprising crunchy inside. It was a new wave on the old fashioned “taco”. Thank u for sharing this recipe.
Anais says
I made this tonight and it was a success! My kids and the husband loved it!
I did substitute the beef for the chicken.
I will be making this more than once!
Awsome recepie!
Jessica Pinney says
So glad you liked it, Anais!
Carmen Poulton says
Instead of frying put it in a convection oven until golden
Jen says
Almond tortillas also work when trying to go Gluten free.
Becky S says
I just made these tonight – YUM! I was able to find giant burrito shells (La Banderita brand) and they covered the whole tostada.
Aimee says
I just made these tonight- YUM!
Jessica says
Thanku sooo much u are a genius! I am going to try n make these tonight
Jen says
@Karen. I just recently found Mission brand gluten free tortillas and they taste just like regular flour tortillas. So excited to see someone finally making them! They don’t crack and break like the Whole Foods version does. Perhaps check Amazon too for these
Amy says
I can’t find tostada shells in any grocery stores near me and I really want to make these!!
Jessica Pinney says
If you can’t find tostada shells you could just crunch up tortilla chips and use those. It would be a little different, but the same type of texture.
Ivana says
Just made these for dinner tonight! All thumbs up and definitely going on the repeat list! They taste much better than the ones from Taco Bell – healthier. Next time I am going to try adding salsa! Thank you for the recipe!
Jessica Pinney says
Salsa would be good! Glad you enjoyed.
Sue says
Made these tonight, they were awesome! Hubby loved them!
Alecia Glenn says
I made these, my husband said, it will become a regular they came out great, yes there is gluten free tortillas. To whom wanted to know.
Amanda says
Absolutely delicious and very simple and easy to make!!
A BIG hit with my family!!!
Janet says
Check the nacho cheese sauce carefully if you must be gluten free, many contain hidden gluten. If you make your own, don’t use velveeta, it DOES contain gluten.
Anne says
Made these today and they were SO GOOD. Used tostitos salsa con queso dip for the nacho cheese and it was delicious.
