Fresh blackberries come together with blanco tequila and orange liqueur to make this a margarita to remember! It’s a delicious, refreshing cocktail that’s perfect for summer parties!

Why have a regular ol’ margarita when there are so many exciting variations out there??

You know that’s how we feel because in the past we’ve shared some of our favorites like the lime sherbet margarita, Meyer lemon margarita, and our delicious blood orange beergaritas.

This summer we’ve found ourselves with an excess of blackberries, so naturally we’re blending them up with our favorite margarita ingredients!

The result is an ultra-refreshing fruity margarita. Something reminiscent of a cocktail you’d drink by the resort pool on vacation.

Ingredients

The ingredients for blackberry margaritas on a white background. Grand marnier, Patron, blackberries, limes, and sugar.
  • Blackberries – For optimal flavor, I recommend using fresh blackberries. Be sure to purchase at peak ripeness – look for ones that are plump and wrinkle free and have a deep purple color. Frozen blackberries can be substituted if necessary.
  • Limes – Pre-bottled lime juice contains preservatives which severely alter the flavor, so be sure to use fresh limes. You will also need one or two for garnish. Look for limes that are a rich green color with little yellow for the best flavor. Make sure they aren’t too firm – those generally do not juice well.
  • Tequila – I prefer blanco tequila in my margaritas. Patron & Don Julio are my go-tos. Pueblo Viejo and Espolon Blanco are great budget-friendly choices.
  • Orange Liqueur – Grand Marnier is my first choice for orange liqueur, but any brand of triple sec works great.
  • Simple Syrup – This will add a little needed sweetness to our margarita. If you don’t have any on hand, you can quickly and easily make it with just water & sugar. See instructions in the tip section below.
  • Salt – Every margarita needs a salted rim! Coarse salt is ideal, so I use Morton’s coarse kosher salt.

What glasses should I use?

Margaritas can be served in margarita glasses, cocktail glasses, highball glasses or old-fashioned glasses.

Tips

  • No simple syrup? No problem! Make your own by dissolving 1/2 cup of sugar in 1 cup of water. I do this in a sauce pan on medium-low heat on the stovetop. You can also microwave the water for 2-2.5 minutes, then add your sugar and stir to dissolve.
  • If serving on the rocks, I recommend using a large block of ice. You can make them with this inexpensive silicone mold.
  • After blending, you can filter the mixture through a fine sieve if you want it to be ultra smooth. I skip this if serving frozen, but prefer it when serving on the rocks.

We have so many blackberries growing wild on our property and I’m always seeking new ways to utilize them. This cocktail was perfect and we will certainly be making more.
