“Spicy bowls” are a dream come true for pickle lovers who appreciate a bit of heat. Serve with potato chips for the ultimate midnight snack.
This flavorful, tangy, spicy, crunchy snack called a “spicy bowl” is going to be your new favorite munchie!
It originated in Central Florida and is made up of ingredients you can mostly find at a corner store – like pickles, pickled hot peppers, pickled eggs, and even pickled sausage.
Hot sauce and red pepper flakes are added with the pickled ingredients to the bowls along with some of the brine.
Put the lid on and shake it up so all those tangy and spicy flavors start to meld together. The result is an addictive snack that will make your lips smack!
To keep it authentic you’ve got to serve it with a bag of Ruffles Sour Cream & Cheddar potato chips. I also like them with the Flamin’ hot version to add even more heat.
If you made it this far, I’m guessing you’re obsessed with pickles just like me! In that case, I recommend trying pickle shots with tajin rims and these absolutely fire Nashville Hot fried pickles.
Ingredients
- Pickled Sausage – Use any hot pickled sausage. You can find individually wrapped brands such as Herb’s at gas stations.
- Pickled Peppers – Use any combination of sliced pickled peppers you like, such as jalapenos, banana peppers, and cherry peppers.
- Pickled Eggs – I love the flavor of Bay View Red Hot Pickled Eggs. You can leave the eggs out entirely, or add non-pickled hard-boiled eggs instead, if you’d prefer.
- Pickles – Just like peppers, you can use any of your favorite pickles. I like dill to balance out some of the heat, but I often add sweet and spicy pickles. Van Holten Hot Mama pickles are a popular choice.
- Hot Sauce – Louisiana hot sauce is my go to in this recipe, but you can use any kind.
- Seasoning – Most people like to add red pepper flakes (I use these super spicy pepper flakes made with four hot peppers). Cajun or blackening season is also common.
- Brine – You’ll add some of the brine from each of your pickled ingredients to your spicy bowl.

Tips
- These are commonly made in to-go containers, but you don’t need to buy anything to make these. Choose a reusable container you already own, or simply use a regular bowl. You can even use a Ziploc bag.
- There’s lots of room for customizations here! Try different pickled vegetables, hot sauces, and seasonings. Make an all vegetable bowl by leaving out the egg and sausage, etc.
Need even more spice in your life? Try this easy spicy Mexican candy or Flamin’ hot corn on the cob.
