A bright blue vodka shot that citrus fans will love because of its strong notes of orange and lime. Only a few basic ingredients required.

If the classic Kamikaze is the cool older cousin of the margarita, the Blue Kamikaze is the wild younger sibling who shows up to the party with glitter and glow sticks. And if you’re into classic club cocktails and shots – you’re going to love it!
It’s made with just three ingredients: vodka, blue curaçao, and lime juice. Don’t let the simplicity fool you – it’s balanced, bold, and shockingly smooth for something that hits hard.
No fancy bar tools or obscure ingredients required. If you have a shaker (or a mason jar with a lid, we won’t judge!), a shot glass, and some ice, you’re good to go.
The only problem with the blue kamikaze shot is that it goes down just a little too easily!
Ingredients
- Vodka – Use your favorite brand, no need to splurge on top-shelf.
- Blue Curacao – This gives the shot its blue color and orange flavor.
- Lime Juice – I recommend using fresh squeezed, but you can sub shelf-stable Rose’s lime juice to make it sweeter.
- Garnish (optional) – Lime wedge or slice.
Variations
There’s so many different kamikaze variations you can make with just a simple ingredient swap. Simply sub the liqueurs below in place of the blue curacao. Try them all to see what you like best!
- OG – Triple sec
- Watermelon – 99 watermelon
- Melon– Midori
- Rasberry – Chambord
- Green Apple – Sour apple pucker
- Sour Cherry – Sour cherry liqueur
Tips
- Don’t skip the shake! Shaking not only chills the shot, it also slightly dilutes and balances it, while fully incorporating the citrus juice.
- Prefer a cocktail? Just double the ingredients, shake, and pour over ice in a martini or highball glass.
- Big batch. Make parties stress free by serving a large batch in a punch bowl or just have it ready in bottles to quickly pour shots.
- Try a sugar rim. If you want to get extra, rim your shot glass with lime and dip it in sugar. Sweet and sour perfection!
Food Pairings
What’s a shot without a snack? Here are a few food ideas that complement the bright citrus and slight sweetness of the blue kamikaze.
🧂 Salty Snacks
Salt + citrus = balance.
- Air fryer pretzel bites – Classic happy hour snack with plenty of salt to balance out the citrus.
- Popcorn with lime zest and chili powder – A little zing and spice to match the shot’s tartness.
- Tortilla chips & pineapple salsa – Sweet, salty, acidic: the holy trinity.
🍗 Protein-Based Bites
Counteract the sugar and slow down the alcohol absorption rate.
- Grilled chicken skewers with a citrus glaze – The glaze ties in beautifully with the lime notes in the shot, and it’s always fun to grill for happy hour.
- Buffalo Shrimp – Crispy, spicy, and just enough vinegar to cut through the sweetness of the shot.
- Mini sliders – In my opinion, sliders are the perfect are the perfect shot chaser. Especially these Italian sliders.
🧀 Cheesy Companions
Tangy drinks crave rich, creamy counterpoints.
- Goat cheese crostini with honey + lime zest – Sharp, tangy, and just bougie enough to elevate your happy hour at home.
- Queso dip with hatch chiles – Smooth, spicy, and smoky—this queso brings enough heat and umami to keep up with the citrus blast of the shot.
