Mixing matcha with Sprite results in refreshing, energizing lemon-lime soda that makes a great afternoon pick-me up. Top it with cold foam, or experiment with fruit purees and syrups to make it your own.

A stream of matcha is being poured into a small glass filled with Sprite and clear ice cubes. A lemon and a lime are out of focus in the background.

When Sprite matcha started popping up all over my feed, I’ll admit I was skeptical at first.

But then I thought about it – I love a matcha tonic, using Sprite instead isn’t too different. It adds a bit of extra sweetness and some lovely lemon and lime notes.

Usually if I need caffeine in the afternoon, I’m making a Red Bull Italian soda. But on a recent hot day, I was craving something a bit lighter and decided to give the matcha Sprite trend a try. Wow! I was immediately hooked.

A small hourglass shaped glass is filled halfway with a red Shirley temple mixture and the top half is bright green matcha. It's garnished with a lime wheel and a maraschino cherry.

It only takes a few minutes to put together and there’s endless ways to customize it. Sometimes I make a Shirley temple version, other times I like to add a flavored cold foam.

Let me know how you like making yours in the comments, so I can give it a try next time I have one!

Ingredients

A can of Sprite soda and a bag of ceremonial grade matcha on a black background.
  • Soda – Use Sprite or your favorite lemon-lime soda.
  • Matcha – I recommend using a latte or ceremonial grade matcha. Encha is one of my favorite brands.
  • Optional – Lemon and lime slices as a garnish.

Tips

  1. Instead of simply brewing the matcha in water, you can make a creamy matcha cloud and put it on top of the Sprite.
  2. Try adding fruit purees and boba to the soda. My favorites are strawberry puree, coconut syrup, or mango popping boba pearls.
  3. Add a squeeze of fresh lime and lemon to the Sprite for an extra citrus punch. It really compliments and balances out the earthy taste of the matcha!
A small hourglass shaped glass is filled 2/3 of the way with Sprite soda and 1/3 with bright green matcha.

If you are a fan of this drink, you’ll probably also like this cherry coke espresso float. It offers a bit more caffeine and is extra indulgent because of the vanilla bean cold foam.
