Learn how to make margaritas in the Ninja Slushi machine without pre-made margarita mix. You can use blanco or reposado tequila in this recipe.

A tall margarita glass filled with a margarita slushie that's garnished with a fresh lime wheel in focus in the foreground, a bottle of tequila, triple sec, a few limes, and a Ninja Slushi machine are out of focus in the background.

I probably make more margaritas in the Ninja Slushi than any other cocktail. There’s really nothing better than an ice cold margarita on a hot day, and I never get bored because you can make so many different flavors!

I’ve found that the easiest way to make slushie margaritas is by starting with a base of limeade. In my opinion, it tastes a lot better than pre-bottled margarita mix and is just as convenient.

I’m also including measurements so that you can make it with fresh lime juice, if you’d prefer.

Ingredients

A bottle of of triple sec liqueur, 1800 tequila, simple syrup, and simply limeade next to two limes on a black background.
  • Limeade – Using store-bought limeade is my favorite hack for easy margaritas in the Ninja Slushi, but you can substitute with 1 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice, 1 cup simple syrup, and 2 cups water.
  • Triple Sec – This orange flavored liqueur is an essential part of the classic margarita flavor. You can substitute Grand Marnier if you’re going for an elevated cocktail (like a Cadillac margarita).
  • Tequila – Use your favorite tequila.
  • Water – Lemon-lime soda can work in place of the water.

Flavors & Variations

There’s truly an endless amount of flavors you can make. You can use flavored syrups, or my personal preference – fruit purรฉes.

Strawberry or mango are my two favorites. They’re especially delicious when combined! Blackberry and peach are both great too.

A tall margarita glass rimmed with salt and filled with a frozen strawberry margarita. A fresh lime wheel and whole strawberry are on the right side of the rim as garnish.

Substitute the triple sec with blue curaรงao and you’ll get a blue margarita slushie, or replace it with melon liqueur for a Midori version.

Play around with different flavors and liqueurs and let me know your favorite flavor combos in the comments!

Tips

  • Rub the outside of the rims of your glasses with a lime, then roll in salt or tajin (so good with a mango margarita!).
  • You can dispense any leftovers into a Yeti pitcher. When stored in the fridge it can keep its consistency for a day or two.
  • If you’re serving at a party or to a larger group, make a second batch in a large container or pitcher and you can top off the slushi machine as needed.

These came out perfect! Amazing consistency. I used strawberry simple syrup instead of puree.
