Put a stunning blue twist on your margarita with this variation on the classic cocktail that is perfect for summer gatherings.
If you’ve ever felt like your margarita needed a little more pizzaz – the blue margarita is for you! It looks like something straight out of a Carribean island postcard.
But really it’s just a classic marg, with the typical orange liqueur swapped for blue curacao. This simple substitution doesn’t really change the flavor, as curacao is also citrus flavored, but it does give the cocktail it’s vibrant blue color.
I think it’s perfect for pool parties and afternoons at the beach house. Serve it alongside blue mojitos for a fun day of refreshing, monochromatic cocktails!
Ingredients
- Tequila – I like blanco tequila, but you can use any type. I recommend choosing something that is 100% agave.
- Lime Juice – Fresh squeezed lime juice yields the best flavor. I don’t recommend bottled.
- Simple Syrup – You can use homemade or store-bought.
- Blue Curacao – Any brand works great in this recipe. Make the most of the bottle by trying other cocktails made with blue curacao.
Tips
- Want it frozen instead of on the rocks? Simple throw the ingredients into a blender and blend until smooth.
- Shaken, not stirred! Citrus juice incorporates much better when shaken, so don’t skip the cocktail shaker.
- Don’t leave out the salt rim. It creates a delightful contrast to the sweet and tangy flavors of this cocktail.
If you have any leftover tequila you need to use up after this recipe, I recommend trying a Mexican candy shot or a cantarito.
