Three ingredient jello shots featuring Mountain Dew Baja Blast soda and tequila. Tastes like a tropical margarita!
Baja blast is the only soda (other than Surge) that has managed to have a hold on me. There’s just something about that light and crisp tropical flavor!
Now that it’s available year-round in cans and bottles, I’ve been partaking in many culinary experiments. So far, Baja Blast jello shots have been the crowd favorite among my family and friends.
I use tequila as the alcohol so it’s kind of like a tropical Taco Bell version of a margarita! However, you can substitute any alcohol you’d prefer – vodka and Malibu rum are both delicious.
Live mas and pair them with a homemade Crunchwrap Supreme or this dead-on copycat of the Taco Bell chicken quesadilla.
Ingredients
- Baja Blast – Obviously, you’ll need some of the soda. You can buy it in cans or bottles at grocery stores and gas stations.
- Alcohol – Blanco tequila is my favorite for this. I don’t recommend reposado or añejo for this recipe as it will turn the shots a swamp green color.
- Gelatin – I’m using Knox unflavored gelatin. You can purchase it in envelopes or in a bulk container (perfect for those of us who are making lots of jello shots or gummy bears).

Tips
- Add a splash of Blue Curacao to enhance the blue color.
- Easily make these alcohol-free by using all Baja Blast, or adding another liquid in place of the alcohol like coconut water, juice, or club soda.
- Candied jelly lime slices make a fun garnish.

Baja Blast Jello Shots
Ingredients
- 8 ounces Baja Blast
- 2 envelopes Knox Unflavored Gelatin
- 8 ounces Blanco Tequila
Instructions
- Before beginning, prepare your jello shot cups. I place them all on a baking sheet for easy moving to the fridge.
- Pour the soda into a pot. Spinkle the gelatin over the top of the soda and allow to bloom for about 5 minutes.
- Turn the heat on medium-high and stir until gelatin is dissolved. Do not allow the mixture to come to a boil.
- Remove the mixture from heat and add the tequila. Stir to combine.
- Distribute the mixture evenly among your jello cups. Seal with the lids and place in the refrigerator at least 2 hours to set.
