This riff on the classic sunrise cocktail replaces the tequila with vodka to make an ultra-smooth drink. Perfect for brunch or summertime!
You’ve almost certainly heard of a Tequila Sunrise, but what about the less famous vodka sunrise?
As you might have guessed by the name, it’s simply a variation that uses vodka instead of tequila.
I really prefer this version to the original. The vodka makes for much a smoother drink, in my opinion.
Because of the orange juice base, it’s the perfect “hair of the dog” cocktail or brunch drink!
Ingredients
- Vodka – Use your favorite brand of vodka.
- Orange Juice – Any OJ will do. Most people prefer one without pulp.
- Grenadine – Use Rose’s grenadine to get the sunrise effect. If you use a “real” grenadine, the color will not be as vibrant.
- Ice – I love pebble ice so I used my Opal ice maker. Larger blocks of ice melt slower, so if you’re concerned about diluting your drink use bigger ice cubes.

Tips
- You can increase or decrease the amount of grenadine to adjust the sweetness to your liking.
- Garnish with an orange slice or orange wheel and a maraschino cherry, if desired.
- Be sure to add the grenadine right before serving to get the desired sunrise effect. It floats to the bottom quickly!
