This festive cocktail served right in the can has all the flavors of a classic Christmas punch. Made with vodka and triple sec.

A can of cranberry flavored ginger ale has had the top removed and is garnished with a lime wheel, an orange wheel, a sprig of mint, and a maraschino cherry in the middle.

I always enjoy bringing some nostalgia into my holiday recipes, so I thought I’d recreate the simple Christmas punch my Grandmother used to serve, but make it a cocktail.

It seemed like the perfect recipe to try out this new trend of taking the top off cans and making cocktails inside. It’s so fun and surprisingly easy!

I gave it a try with one of my favorite seasonal canned sodas – cranberry ginger ale. I doctored it up with fresh citrus juices, vodka, and triple sec, creating what is essentially Christmas spirit in a can.

It’s truly the holiday cocktail that can do it all – perfect for big batching at Christmas parties, or just making a single serving for a quiet night of wrapping presents at home.

Ingredients

  • Cranberry ginger ale – If you can’t find this, use regular ginger ale with a few tablespoons of cranberry juice.
  • Vodka – Any brand of vodka will suffice. Plain or citrus flavors work best.
  • Triple Sec – Sub Grand Marnier if you’re fancy.
  • Pineapple juice – Don’t skip this! One of the staple flavors of Christmas punch. I use Dole.
  • OJ – Fresh-squeezed or bottled both work.
  • Lime juice – I recommend using fresh-squeezed to avoid the preservative flavors in bottled lime juice.
  • Ice – I recommend using crushed or pebble ice.
  • Garnishes – Citrus wheels or slices, maraschino cherries, and mint are all great options.
Two cans of Canada Dry Ginger Ale Cranberry have the tops taken off and are garnished with lime and orange wheels, a maraschino cherry, and a mint sprig.

Tips

  • Ginger ale is quite fizzy, be sure to carefully stir and slowly add ice to your can or you may experience an overflow.
  • Instead of serving it in the can, you can make large batch and place it in a punch bowl – just like Grandma use to.
  • Not a fan of ginger ale? Try sparkling apple cider or a pomegranate soda.
  • Chill all the ingredients ahead of time to ensure a cold, smooth drink.
