Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme

Homemade Crunchwrap Supreme Recipe

August 02 , 2015 by: Janette Staub Beef

Jess and I have been talking about making a homemade Crunchwrap Supreme for over a year now. We are proud to announce that it has finally happened!

We were so excited about the accomplishment we ate one for lunch AND for dinner πŸ˜‰ (hey, we shared).

Crunchwrap Supreme Recipe

We do try and stay away from eating fast food as much as possible, but once in awhile, it’s necessary to indulge.

It’s even better when you can make it at home with fresh meat and veggies from your local grocery store.

Taco Bell Crunchwrap Supreme Recipe

I won’t lie though, I still slathered my share with leftover fire sauce from a previous visit to Taco Bell.

This was super easy to make and, I’ll say it, better than the original!

  • Prep Time: 10 mins
  • Cook Time: 15 mins
  • Total Time: 25 mins
  • Yield: 6

  1. In a skillet or large cooking pan, cook and crumble the ground beef over medium-high heat. When it is no longer pink, drain the grease.
  2. Place meat back into the pan and stir the taco seasoning mix as well as the water it calls for on the packet. Cook according to the package instructions.
  3. Warm up the nacho cheese sauce in the microwave and set aside.
  4. Place the flour tortillas on a plate and warm in the microwave for about 20 seconds.
  5. Lay one tortilla on a flat surface. Spread a couple of tablespoons of nacho cheese in the middle of the tortilla.
  6. Place Β½ cup of taco meat on top of the nacho cheese.
  7. Next, add the tostada shell, a thin layer of sour cream, lettuce, tomato, and lastly, the shredded Mexican cheese.
  8. To fold into the actual crunchwrap, start with the bottom of the tortilla and fold the edge up to the center of the fillings. Keep doing that, folding as tight as possible, as you work your way around the tortilla.
  9. Spray another skillet or cooking pan with cooking spray and heat over medium heat. Place the crunchwrap supreme, seam-side down, onto the skillet. Cook for 2-3 min., or until golden brown.
  10. Flip over and cook the other side for another 2-3 min or until golden brown.
  11. Cook the rest of your crunchwraps and eat immediately.

  • YES!! This is fantastic!!!

  • Are you kidding me? First off I am so happy to see you using Guerrero Tortillas, my favorite that I can’t buy here in the jungles of Costa Rica. I might try this anyway. Thanks Deby

  • Awesome! Just one thing: Instructions make use of nacho cheese, but it’s not listed under ingredients.

  • The instructions say to ” Spread Β½ of taco meat onto the center of the tortilla”….Do you mean “1/2 cup?” I’m guessing you do not mean “1/2 of the taco meat because if that were the case, you would only be able to make 2 of these. Just curious.

  • Anetta you are correct, 1/2 cup. Sorry for the confusion.

  • I love this website

  • Thanks! This website loves you back πŸ™‚

  • This sounds yummy. Why does everyone use packaged taco seasoning when you can use cumin, chili powder & garlic to taste. Other than that great receipe

  • Do you know if anyone makes Gluten-free flour tortillas? (Or if there can even be such a thing). These look delish but I have to eat Gluten-free…😁

  • I have been making these for years, long before the fast food chains. Another idea, use some cooked chicken breast with broccoli with alfredo sauce. Wrap the same way. Delicious !

  • A friend uses rice tortillas to avoid the gluten prob.

  • What kind of nacho cheese do you use?

  • It looks delicious, I am going to make it soon.

  • I have purchased gluten free tortillas in the refrigerated section of Whole Foods here in Mpls, MN.

  • Instead of a tostoda, just crunch up chips. Stays way crunchier and folds up better. With chips, there is no need to tear off another shell to fit in the top.

  • To Chase: yes it does. Its the last ingredient on the list.

  • Is the nacho cheese used in this recipe in a jar or does it come from the refrigerated case with the other cheeses? Thanks

  • Where do I find Nacho Cheese? Never seen it…

  • The kind we used comes in a can, but any kind of nacho cheese will get the job done.

  • You can usually find it at the grocery store near the chips or in the Mexican food aisle.

  • Yum! I’m thinking of using the smaller tortilla she’ll for the top instead of tearing? If it’s small enough., not sure.

  • Love this recipe! I also like using the crushed chips, and sometimes make them with chicken instead of ground beef.

  • Awesome, Awesome, did I say Awesome? Oh my good gravy!!

  • Do you fry up the tostada shell first or no?

  • At Taco Bell, we don’t actually put shredded cheese on it. It’s 2 pumps of nacho cheese, one scoop of beef, a tostada shell, a circle of sour cream, a 4-finger pinch of lettuce, and then a 2-finger pinch of tomatoes. Then we fold it and grill it. We never put any form of shredded cheese in them unless requested specifically by the customer.

  • No, just put it in as is.

  • It’s so easy to make homemade taco meat without all the additives in packaged taco mix. Here it is….
Saute 1/2 diced white onion in a couple tbls of Canola oil. Add 2 lbs ground beef or ground turkey, brown meat.
Drain leaving a little fat for flavor.
Add water to meat to barely cover it.
    Add equal parts (2tbls).
    Chili powder, paprika, and Cumin.
Simmer on low heat uncovered for 1 hour.
Feel free to add your preference of heat if you like it hot/spicy πŸ˜‹

  • Thank you!! Yum!!!

  • Karen you can get gluten free tortillas from most grocery stores usually by the deli, also if you have aldis near you they have really good ones and they’re less expensive

  • Do these save well at all? I only want to make a couple.

  • We’ve never had any leftovers here, so I’m not sure. I imagine they will not be nearly as good as fresh, and possibly get soggy.

  • A total hit with my skeptical guys. So happy they enjoyed the surprising crunchy inside. It was a new wave on the old fashioned “taco”. Thank u for sharing this recipe.

  • I made this tonight and it was a success! My kids and the husband loved it!
I did substitute the beef for the chicken.
I will be making this more than once!
    Awsome recepie!

  • So glad you liked it, Anais!

  • Instead of frying put it in a convection oven until golden

  • Almond tortillas also work when trying to go Gluten free.

  • I just made these tonight – YUM! I was able to find giant burrito shells (La Banderita brand) and they covered the whole tostada.

  • I just made these tonight- YUM!

  • Thanku sooo much u are a genius! I am going to try n make these tonight

  • @Karen. I just recently found Mission brand gluten free tortillas and they taste just like regular flour tortillas. So excited to see someone finally making them! They don’t crack and break like the Whole Foods version does. Perhaps check Amazon too for these

  • I can’t find tostada shells in any grocery stores near me and I really want to make these!!

  • If you can’t find tostada shells you could just crunch up tortilla chips and use those. It would be a little different, but the same type of texture.

  • Just made these for dinner tonight! All thumbs up and definitely going on the repeat list! They taste much better than the ones from Taco Bell – healthier. Next time I am going to try adding salsa! Thank you for the recipe!

  • Salsa would be good! Glad you enjoyed.

  • Made these tonight, they were awesome! Hubby loved them!

  • I made these, my husband said, it will become a regular they came out great, yes there is gluten free tortillas. To whom wanted to know.

  • Absolutely delicious and very simple and easy to make!!
A BIG hit with my family!!!

  • Check the nacho cheese sauce carefully if you must be gluten free, many contain hidden gluten. If you make your own, don’t use velveeta, it DOES contain gluten.

  • Made these today and they were SO GOOD. Used tostitos salsa con queso dip for the nacho cheese and it was delicious.

  • what’s the difference between a tostada shell and a (crunchy) taco shell? great recipe!

  • I think the main difference is that tostadas are flat.

  • For the tostada, can easily fry a corn tortilla in tiny bit of oil, or spray with Pam and bake it, or simply break a taco shell in half if tostada shells aren’t available. Easy peasy!!

  • Why two different kinds as to soft taco & tostada shell? Can people leave out the sour cream? Can we subsituted guacamole or salsa for the sour cream?

  • Outstanding! This recipe is amazing and made my hubby smile from ear to ear at first bite. He’s not big on fast food but he had his top favorites and the crunch wrap is definitely one of them. To know that I can now make them at home for him (and me) does my heart glad. Thanks bunches, Jessica! πŸ™Œ

  • Glad you all liked them so much, Kay! You are very welcome.

  • My boyfriend and I were looking for something easy on grocery shopping nite these were delici Is! I can’t eat Taco Bell because it makes me sick so it was my first time eating a crunch wrap!

  • How many calories?

  • I’m giving this a try tonight, it looks good, and too many good reviews 😊

  • I’m a “no spicy: girl, so l use the shredded cheese, it’s fine. How do you reheat these for next day’s lunch? Just warm In microwave? Or toast a bit in toaster oven?

  • I’m going to make these this week-end! I’m going to put a layer of refried pinto beans on them, too! I like the ones from Taco Bell, but I know I’m going to love these! Thank-you!

  • Nacho cheese does not exist where I live. Can anyone suggest an alternative please?

  • Are you in the US? If so, virtually every chain grocery store and Wal-Mart carry nacho cheese. You can also order it on Amazon, or make it yourself. Plenty of recipes online. It is basically just flour, butter, and cheddar cheese.

  • I can’t wait to try this! So good!

  • OMG these taste better than Taco Bell’s..Thank you for the recipe the kids devoured them!! πŸ™‚

  • This was such a epic fail for me.. πŸ˜• I soo looked forward to making these! I bought the largest size burrito there is and I could NOT get it to fold like the video not even CLOSE! Had to use two and it didn’t work out the same at all!! 😫 Idk what I did wrong!!

  • These were delicious! Any tips on how to keep the tostada from getting soggy? That was our only issue.

  • I truly am an awful cook. I followed the directions to a tee and come to the part to fold, it would not close. So…..we had big soft tacos for supper. Sucks to be me. 😳

  • How large (in inches) are burrito wraps? I live in the Netherlands and everything is just “wraps” here.

  • I believe that the burrito tortillas are 10 inches.

  • FANTASTIC! Just made them tonight for dinner, and the family was lined up in the kitchen to grab theirs lol. A complete winner for taco tuesday!

  • The regular Frito corn chips are my absolute favorite thing to use to instead of the tostada shells, also try using the Cheese Con Queso dip that they sell in the chip isle in the supermarket for the cheese. It has a little bit of spice to it. YUM!!!

  • Made tonight. Fantastic. The Guerrero tostada I had was too large to be wrapped fully by the burrito-sized tortilla so I added another burrito and folded it up that way. Obviously not the way to go normally, but it satisfied a hungry husband tonight. Next time I will break the tostada into quarters and overlap, or just use tortilla chips and drop little dollops of sour cream on top.
Thanks for this great recipe that will be in my regular rotation!

  • Second night assembling these. OMG so good! I did find that the tostada:burrito ratio was too large (I could not completely wrap the contents) so the second time which was tonight I broke up the tostada into fourths and overlapped the pieces into a smaller circle.
This is a wonderful recipe and totally satisfies my and hubby’s Mexican food craving! I will be making this one regularly. Many thanks!!

  • These were a hit with most of my family. However it was very messing (I made 8 large ones), burnt my finger putting one in frying pan (trying to keep it closed) and the lettuce became warm & soggy. I’d omit the lettuce if I decide to make it again.

  • These were very good,i substituted queso for the nacho cheese and nacho doritos for the tostada.

  • This is FANTASTIC!!! Use the nacho cheese !!

  • These were yummy, made them for my husband, he ate 3.

  • I came across your recipe for homemade crunch wraps and surprised them for dinner tonight with these and I am now currently the most popular person in our house ?

  • I made this they look just like taco bell my husband like them as well he recommend me to make them s second time great recipe.

  • Can’t wait to try this tonight! Thinking about trying Rotel tomatoes in the jar or salsa instead of regular diced tomatoes.

  • That sounds delicious! I have used salsa before and it comes out well. Hope you enjoy. πŸ™‚

  • I’m making these tonight with a few substitutions, I’ll report back. The biggest tortilla I’ve seen is at WinCo grocery store. I know the burrito size where I normally shop are not going to be big enough.

  • How can this recipe be printed?

  • The easiest way would be via the “print” button on the right side of the recipe.

  • Thank you. I tried this but the recipe is blacked out.

  • It is working correctly for me on 3 different browsers and 3 different devices. Make sure you have updated your browser to the most recent version, I recommend using Chrome.
You can also just copy and paste the recipe into a Word document and print from there.

  • Tried these awesome wraps! Super delicious! Thank you for the recipe.

  • I used canned refried beans instead of nacho cheese, and they were delicious .

  • Made this recipe tonight and they were absolutely delicious!!! In Holland I couldn’t get all the ingredients at my local supermarket. So by lack of good nacho cheese I used a different kind of cheese spread and in stead of the tostada shells I snapped open a taco shell. Will be serving these to friends….

  • Came out great! Couldn’t find tostada shells so used hard taco shells that I broke in half. Will definitely be making again!

  • I really like that we can make this meal at home and we don’t have to go to toco bell just to get something they made when you can make it at home.

  • My wife is vegetarian so I will try this with Morningstar Farms crumbles instead of the beef – sauteed in chopped onions and garlic and a diced jalapeno peppper – and substitute 1 T Chili powder, 1 t cumin, and 1 t paprika, dash of salt and fresh ground pepper with a cup of vegetable broth for the taco seasoning.

  • My family LOVED this!!!

  • Hi and THANKS
I have to say “of course I over stuffed my final product” so…
I broke the tostada in half placing a half on top and bottom then rolled like a burrito lol
It was awesome and a huge hit
    Thanks again!!

  • I nade this a couple of days ago and it was a hit. My family loves it very much and the asked me I can make it again. Thank u for sharing your recipe.

  • Well, the recipe to make a homemade crunch-wrap supreme is straightforward, isn’t it?
