It’s that time of year again…grilling time!
With Memorial Day quickly approaching, I started to think about what delicious foods I might want to throw on the grill this year.
The first thing that came to mind was this over the top hot dog recipe I made for a few friends last year. I call it “The American”.
On one side of your hot dog you put potato chips, on the other side you put potato salad. It may sound a little crazy, but it’s actually delicious!
It’s also super convenient because you don’t have to carry around a fork to eat your potato salad. I don’t know about you, but I hate trying to carry around a plate, a drink, and silverware at a BBQ. You know I’m not giving up my drink so the easiest thing to eliminate is the fork.
The first thing I do is cook up a few Hebrew National® Franks. I like a pretty serious sear on my dogs, so I do them for a few minutes on each side over medium-high heat. Everybody’s got their own dog technique, so feel free to do your own thing.
I don’t think you can name a hot dog “The American” without adding ketchup. I bust out my bottle of Hunt’s® and give that dog a good slathering.
I do a little wiggly technique with my ketchup, maybe your more of a straight line person? That’s okay by me.
The other “must-have” hot dog condiment? Gulden’s! I love that spicy brown bottle of goodness. (You may have noticed that I prefer the straight line approach with my mustard, it just feels right!)
We’ve been traveling a lot lately. When we were getting ready to make these hot dogs we were on a 12-hour car trip. It was super convenient for us to find a Walmart right by the highway and grab everything we needed.
I found the Hebrew National Hot dogs in the refrigerated Prepackaged Deli section.
The Gulden’s mustard…..
…and the Hunt’s Ketchup were both located in the condiment aisle.
My favorite thing about this hot dog recipe? It’s a super easy and cost effective way of feeding a crowd. I’m manning the grill at a pool party for Memorial Day next week and these will be on the menu!
No matter how you dress your dog this grilling season, I hope it’s delicious! Cheers to summer & many more hot dogs!
